In recent years, there has been a growing interest in the use of diets to help people lose weight. However, I am sorry to say that not all diets work. In fact, a recent study showed that 95% of diets fail. There are so many reasons why this happens to be the case, however, I will not be discussing those reasons. Instead, this article will be discussing several things that diets that work have in common.
If you want to lose weight and keep it off for any period of time, then you must ensure that the diet you have choosen has these characteristics:
The Diet Itself
The diet cannot be too restrictive: if the diet does not allow you to eat a particular food group, then I would not recommend such a diet, especially if like that food group. You will find yourself craving that food group and eventually, you might even start binge eating. This would cancel out any benefits that you have received from the diet.
The diet cannot recommend supplements: they are just not a good long term option. There are two reasons for this, the first is that if you stop buying the supplements, then you will gain back the weight. The second reason is that they can cost a lot of money, in fact, they can add up to over a thousand dollars or more a year. I do not recommend you buy protein shakes or any other weight loss supplement. (Please note: I do recommend you buy vitamin supplements – which you should already be taking).
The diet should allow snacking: this does not mean processed foods, instead, it should allow you to eat fruit or nut etc between meals. In fact, one of the best ways to lose weight is by eating 5-6 small meals each day.
Diets that work usually do not require any exercise, simply because you should be able to lose weight without it. However, if you have diet that recommends exercise, ensure that it is not high intensity exercise – such exercise will cause you to lose motivation and give up. It should recommend low intensity exercise such as walking or perhaps gardening.
Another tip, you may want to look into weight training, this can cause the metabolism to increase for hours after you have finished. This is a great way to lose weight as it does not require cardiovascular exercise (which everybody hates) – it will also help firm your body in no time.
I know that these tips are quite basic, they were not designed for people that want specific information. However, these tips are so crucial to weight loss, if you really want to lose weight than you need a diet. These tips are intended to help guide you to find diets that work.
